This year is our inaugural event to recognize our FLI students for their outstanding projects and contributions to the community.

See who the winners are!

Seven students across our partnering schools – Albany High School, Athenian School, Oakland High School, Alameda Community Learning Center – will be awarded one of the following FLI Awards:

  1. FLI Legacy Award
  2. Community Impact Award
  3. School Contribution Award
  4. Philanthropy Award
  5. Resilience Award
  6. Collaboration Award
  7. Innovation Award

Event Description

7 awards will be recognized at a 1 ½ to 2 hour event at the end of the academic calendar (June).  Nominations will be made by FLI students and Alumni Ambassadors.  Winners will be selected by a group (7-9 people) made up of the ED, FLI Guides, FLI Alumni, and Board Members.  Awards will be given out by FLI Alumni.  All student projects will be highlighted in the event programs.

Award Description

  1. FLI Legacy Award – The ultimate goal of any FLI project is to create ongoing ripple effects for years after its initial impact.  The FLI Legacy Award goes to a FLI Team Member or Alumni Ambassador whose project has tremendous potential for long-term impact – even beyond the FLI program.  As a role model and visionary, s/he is able to think big and has made remarkable progress in achieving his/her goals.

  3. School Contribution Award – FLI projects may create change or fill a need in different ways, depending on the communities they serve. The winner of the School Contribution Award has identified a need in his/her own school, and has succeeded in making a lasting impact on the school's ability to improve its mission and educate its students. This project contributes meaningfully to the learning, culture and/or opportunities available at the school.

  4. Philanthropy Award – Making a difference in the world often involves giving money and/or services to those in need.  The FLI Team Member who receives the Philanthropist Award has contributed a significant amount of financial support or material goods to a meaningful cause.  By doing appropriate research and assessing how best to maximize social/environmental return on investment, s/he has acquired a great deal of resources to give to an important effective organization. 5. Resilience Award - Many unexpected challenges and obstacles come up when creating and initiating FLI projects.   The winner of the Resilience Award has demonstrated problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in overcoming these barriers.  This person’s great strength and passion have enabled him/her to work through the most difficult parts of the FLI project, successfully completing its objectives.

  6. Collaboration Award – While collaboration is a daunting task for people of all ages, FLI Team Members learn that taking the initiative to forge fruitful relationships and influence others is not only doable, but also important and rewarding. The Collaborator Award goes to someone with tremendous skill and courage, who has effectively worked with other people and organizations in order to achieve greater results.  Though networking and teamwork, s/he has gained the social capital necessary to create great opportunities throughout his/her FLI project.

  7. Innovation Award – In today’s world, we deal with critical challenges unlike those faced by previous generations.  Current and future leaders need to think differently to create change.   The Innovation Award goes to a student whose project is especially unique and clever.   Creativity has allowed this FLI Team Member to exceed expectations in accomplishing project goals.
