Lifelong friends are using their pursuit of a childhood dream to help FLI participants’ dreams come true, too. |
In November, Hank Burgoyne and Jon Knight will join more than 400 other teams in a two-day, 1,300 mile dash down Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. Since they were 10 years old, Hank and Jon have dreamed of participating in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1,000, the world’s longest and most storied nonstop off-road race. (For video of last year's race, see You Tube.) In a month that will mark the mid-point between Hank and Jon’s 40th birthdays, as well as the 40th anniversary of "The 1,000," that dream will come true.
Given the dreams-made-real nature of Hank and Jon's quest, they have dedicated their drive to raising much-deserved funds for FLI, which gives high school students the tools to make real their dream solutions to real-world social problems. To participate in the FLI Across the Baja Fundraising Drive, simply click on the “Donate Now” button at the top of this page and make a per-mile pledge to FLI (e.g., $1.00/mile = $1,300, $.25/mile = $325, $.05/mile = $65). On the donation form, indicate that your donation is on behalf of “FLI Across the Baja.” With 1,300 miles of racing, every penny-per-mile pledged to FLI will make a difference!
To kick off their fundraising effort, FLI, Hank, Jon and Kronenberger Burgoyne, LLP will host a launch party on Thursday, October 25 from 6-9pm, at On the Fly/Club Sportiva, located at 135 Clara Street in the South of Market area of San Francisco. Admission is free, with a portion of all drink proceeds going directly to FLI. Everyone is invited to this special event, during which FLI Founder and Executive Director Eve Cowen, FLI alumni, other members of the FLI Family, and Hank and Jon will discuss the importance of FLI and its mission.
Thanks in advance for your participation. We look forward to seeing you on the 25th!
